Ten years ago today the first iPhone went on sale in the US. A much “smarter” phone that raised the bar exponentially. As intelligent machines are celebrated in UK Robotics Week and Ocado trial driverless delivery vans, technology and innovation continue to flourish.
Intelligent warehouse systems
Whilst we’re not quite at that level we know just how much of a difference intelligent automation can make to everyday warehouse processes and the additional benefits that ongoing innovation and research can deliver.
We’re currently seeing how the micro services architecture of our software platform – imio – has de-risked automation installations and made commissioning processes shorter and simpler.
We’re also looking at incorporating thermal printing into our systems. In the right scenario thermal printers are more cost effective to maintain and can provide higher hourly throughput. We’re working closely with one of our print partners to offer this.
Automation and software
Our software team have implemented different ways to interface with semi-automated equipment using an Arduino interface instead of a PLC. For smaller packing areas this reduces hardware costs significantly but not at the expense of system performance.
Finally using a Raspberry Pi with our software on manual pack benches has enabled us to reduce the hardware cost per pack bench significantly giving a much faster ROI.
