21 Apr Automated packing and carrier interface at Euro Car Parts
Warehouse logistics solutions provider Conveyor Networks has delivered an automated packing system for Euro Car Parts, the leading UK distributor of OE and high quality automotive aftermarket parts for all makes of car and light commercial vehicles. The solution is powered by Imio, Conveyor Networks’ software suite.
Euro Car Parts provides 30-minute van deliveries to local service, repair and MOT workshops, an over-the-counter retail service from over 200 branches nationwide as well as an online Click and Collect facility. It despatches thousands of products a week throughout the UK using UPS, Tuffnells and Royal Mail. Previously the orders were packed manually. Euro Car Parts would then log onto the carriers’ portals and manually enter all the order information to create a shipping request.
The software application – IM Pak – supports manual and automated packing creating a much faster, more efficient process. Seamlessly interfacing with several host data sources it takes order information and for manual packing relays a series of operator prompts via a PC and monitor or a touchscreen once the product barcode has been scanned.

For automated packing it scans the barcode and then runs through the same steps.
Carrier despatch is also managed by Imio. Operators are able to build a pallet for different carriers which contains all required product information including weight. The software interfaces with UPS and Tuffnells advising them that pallets are ready and what products are on them. A driver manifest is created following each carrier’s specific standards and Euro Car Parts is given a tracking ID at the same time. The despatch is confirmed to the host system once the carriers have collected the pallets.
Using software to manage the packing and carrier despatch gives Euro Car Parts a more accurate secure process with real time updates on all stages of the operation. Imio has the advantage that it works well with existing WMS/host systems and requires very little IT input to integrate into an established network.
