Why Conveyor Networks?

It’s a great opportunity to use my 40 years’ experience and have new experiences along the way.

Who has inspired you most in your career?

My first Project Director who encouraged, mentored and provided the inspiration for both myself and the team.

If you were an item in a warehouse, what would you be?

An automated stacker crane, as they never cease to amaze me at their speed and sheer elegance when in full flow.

What would be your advice to someone thinking about coming into the industry?

Absolutely yes as this is such an exciting industry with diverse opportunities, great people and a fantastic way to experience British Industry at its best.

What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s happened in your career?

My first year in sales, selling racking, driving 5 hours round trip Manchester to deepest Wales to carry out a site survey; survey finished and I left site feeling confident having had a great meeting with the Customer; on arriving home I proceeded to draw up my survey and proposed racking layout using the old fashioned method of drawing board & pencils, no CAD in those days! Unfortunately my confidence evaporated when I realised that I had neglected to take one measurement which would have located a building column centrally in my layout; not to be defeated I decided to ring the Customer and asked if firstly he could take the measurement, which he refused so I said that I would revisit site the next morning, which I did, driving the same 5 hour round trip; I then finished the drawing put together prices and proposal and sent it off to the Customer knowing full well that the damage had probably already been and that the PO would not be coming my way…….which turned out to be true. Anyway the moral of this story is take as long as required to check everything and check it a second time, plus don’t be afraid to ask questions however trivial they may appear!

Do you have any hidden talents?
